DataClips
A DataClip is a saved query that you can come back to anytime. Think of it like a bookmark for a question you've asked Teela, except it's even better because you can re-run it for fresh results, add it to a Dashboard, schedule it to arrive in your inbox, or set up alerts so you're notified when something important changes.
Why Use DataClips?
If you find yourself asking the same question regularly, like "How many orders came in this week?" or "Which support tickets are still open?", save it as a DataClip. That way you can get an updated answer in one click, without retyping the question.
DataClips are also the building blocks for Dashboards, scheduled reports, and alerts, so they're at the heart of everything you do in Teela.
Saving a Result as a DataClip
After Teela returns a result, you can save it as a DataClip:
- Click the Save as DataClip button in the results area.
- Give your DataClip a descriptive title (for example, "Weekly Order Count" or "Open Support Tickets").
- Optionally, choose a Folder to keep things organized (more on folders below).
- Click Save.
That's it! Your DataClip now appears in the sidebar and is ready to use anytime.
Re-running a DataClip
Data changes all the time, and your DataClip always runs against the latest data. To get a fresh result:
- Open the DataClip from the sidebar or from a folder.
- Click Run (or simply open it, since Teela will re-execute the query automatically).
The results update instantly, so you're always looking at current information.
Organizing DataClips with Folders
As your collection of DataClips grows, folders help you stay organized.
- Create folders to group related DataClips (for example, "Sales Reports," "HR Metrics," "Weekly Check-ins").
- Nest folders inside other folders for more detailed organization.
- Drag and drop DataClips between folders to rearrange them.
- Custom sorting lets you put the most important DataClips at the top of any folder.
To create a folder, click the New Folder button in the sidebar. You can also create folders on the fly when saving a new DataClip.
Adding DataClips to Dashboards
DataClips are the source data for dashboard components. To add a DataClip to a dashboard:
- Open the dashboard you'd like to update (or create a new one).
- Click Add Component and select your DataClip.
- Choose how you want it displayed: as a table, chart, or number.
For a full walkthrough, see Dashboards.
Scheduling DataClips for Email Delivery
Want a report delivered to your inbox automatically? You can schedule any DataClip for email delivery.
Setting Up a Schedule
- Open the DataClip you want to schedule.
- Click Schedule.
- Choose a frequency:
- Daily: Receive the report every day.
- Weekly: Pick the day of the week.
- Monthly: Pick the day of the month.
- Add recipients: enter email addresses for anyone who should receive the report (including yourself).
- Click Save Schedule.
What the Email Looks Like
Each scheduled email includes:
- An HTML preview of the results right in the email body, so recipients can glance at the data without downloading anything.
- A CSV attachment with the full result set, ready to open in Excel or Google Sheets.
When Do Scheduled Reports Run?
All scheduled DataClips run at 5:00 AM Eastern Time. This means your reports are waiting in your inbox when you start your day.
Setting Up Alerts on DataClips
Alerts let you know when something important happens in your data, so you don't have to check manually. You can set up an alert on any DataClip.
Alert Types
Teela supports three types of alerts:
- Threshold alerts: Get notified when a value goes above or below a number you set. For example: "Alert me if open support tickets exceed 50."
- Change detection: Get notified when a value changes from one run to the next. For example: "Alert me if the number of active users changes by more than 10%."
- Zero results: Get notified when a query returns no results. For example: "Alert me if there are zero failed transactions today" (which could mean your monitoring query isn't finding data it should be finding).
How Notifications Work
When an alert triggers, you'll be notified in two ways:
- Bell icon: A notification badge appears on the bell icon in Teela's header. Click it to see your recent alerts.
- Email (optional): You can also choose to receive an email notification when the alert fires. Add recipient email addresses when setting up the alert.
Alert History
Every alert keeps a history of when it was triggered, so you can look back and see patterns over time. Open the DataClip and click Alert History to review past notifications.
Setting Up an Alert
- Open the DataClip you want to monitor.
- Click Add Alert.
- Choose the alert type (threshold, change detection, or zero results).
- Configure the conditions (for example, the threshold value or the percentage change).
- Choose your notification preferences (in-app, email, or both).
- Click Save Alert.
Exporting DataClip Data as CSV
You can export the results of any DataClip as a CSV file at any time. Open the DataClip, wait for the results to load, and click the Export CSV button. The download includes all rows, not just what's visible on the current page.
Managing Threads
Every conversation you have with Teela is called a Thread. Threads are automatically saved in the sidebar so you can return to them later.
- Rename a thread by right-clicking (or using the menu) and choosing Rename. Give it a meaningful name like "Q1 Revenue Analysis" so you can find it easily.
- Delete a thread you no longer need by selecting Delete from the same menu.
- Navigate your history by scrolling through threads in the sidebar. They're listed in order of most recent activity.
Threads are separate from DataClips. A thread is the full conversation (all the questions you asked and the answers you received), while a DataClip is a single saved query you can re-run independently. You can save any result from a thread as a DataClip.
